For a men's magazine it could be a man who has a lot of muscle and men will also want to know how they became to look like that. Another example is a car magazine, an image of a brand new car on the cover would make someone want to buy the magazine so they can find out more information about it.
Interesting Articles - Writing in a large typography on the front cover will catch the eye and it needs to be bold, straight to the point and make the reader want to know more.
Unique Theme - If the theme of the cover matches the story they are promoting then the audience will remember it and find it clever.
